Our story, our passion, our craft
Who We Are
ChikanCraft was born from a deep love for one of India's most treasured embroidery traditions. We are a team of passionate craftspeople, designers, and textile enthusiasts who believe that authentic Chikankari deserves a global platform — and that every woman deserves to wear something truly handcrafted with love.
Our Heritage
Chikankari is a style of embroidery originating from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, with roots stretching over 400 years. Legend has it that the Mughal Empress Noor Jahan brought this art form to India, and Lucknow became its forever home and capital.
The word "chikan" means embroidery in Persian. Each garment involves multiple artisans — from the block printers who trace patterns onto fabric, to the needle-workers who bring those patterns to life using delicate hand stitches like tepchi, murri, phanda, bijli, jali, and bakhiya.
A single kurta can take anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks to complete depending on the complexity of the design. That's the magic of authentic Chikankari — every stitch is placed by human hands, with patience and pride.
A running stitch that forms the foundation of most chikankari designs. Creates flowing lines and outlines.
Raised knot stitches that create textured, three-dimensional floral and paisley patterns.
Metallic wire and gold/silver dot embellishments that add sparkle and festivity to designs.
Intricate lattice-like openwork that creates beautiful see-through patterns — a Lucknowi specialty.
Every piece is genuinely hand-embroidered by skilled Lucknowi artisans. No machine work. No shortcuts.
We use natural, breathable fabrics like pure cotton, mul, chiffon, and georgette. Good for you and the planet.
We work directly with artisan cooperatives in Lucknow, ensuring fair wages and dignified working conditions.
Each garment passes strict quality checks before dispatch. We do not compromise on craftsmanship.
